Frequently Asked Questions - Boot Camps

Who are camps for? What makes for a good “fit” between students* and FLOW Boot Camps?

Camps are offered for students in 9th through 12th grade. We find that our most successful students are those who are open to thinking outside the typical college process/future planning box. FLOW is a great fit for students who want to be carefully and compassionately challenged, are open to being vulnerable, and excited to grapple with nuanced questions and topics.

The “Future Mapping” camp is appropriate for all high school grades, while the “College Prep” and “College Process” camps are designed more specifically for those in their final years of high school.

*If your student has a serious learning difference or a severe mental health challenge, please contact us before registering to discuss whether our camps can provide the proper support. In some cases, our one-on-one advising may be a better fit.

What is your teaching style? What does a typical lesson look like?

FLOW curriculum is all about digging deep and connecting theory to practice. Our non-conventional approach creatively combines elements from current events, podcasts, TED Talks, and memes. A typical lesson may include things like a mock admissions exercise or even the occasional miniaturized escape room. Our philosophical approach encourages critical inquiry and introspection to increase engagement in the college and future planning processes.

When will camps be held?

3-hours per day; 12-hour intensive; Monday through Thursday*

  • Summer and Fall Camps: late May through early November

  • Morning sessions: 9-12 noon

  • Evening sessions: 5-8 pm

    • No make-up classes will be offered

  • *During weeks in which a holiday occurs, the schedule is adjusted accordingly - these weeks are noted with an asterisk in the “Dates and Times” section of the full camp descriptions

Where will camps be held?

All in-person camps are held in the Denver-Boulder metro area

  • Sessions can be offered in student/family homes or the FLOW home office in Northwest Denver (indoor and outdoor meeting space available)

How are camp groups formed?

All of our camps are open enrollment and fill on a rolling basis. We are always happy to accommodate a group of friends. Please feel free to call us at 740-541-2510 or send an email to info@floweducation.org to discuss to your group in more detail.

What supplies/resources do I need for these camps?

To participate in these camps, students will need: a laptop/charger, notebook, pen, and paper/notebook.

Optimism and a sense of humor are always great, but we’ll do our best to stand in as necessary. Either way, the amazing puns and corny Dad jokes are probably unavoidable.

Will there be homework? And are there things I need to do before the camp starts?

Oh yeah. And not just homework. But homework that isn’t even graded.

Seriously, though, the workload outside of camp is by no means overwhelming, and hopefully even comes close to being fun. We know, we said it: fun.

Prior to camp, students are required to complete an intake form that asks about academic and extracurricular information. Depending on the session, there may be an additional pre-camp homework assignment to complete.

Can parents attend/join?

At FLOW, we know most students wouldn’t be where they are today without the help and support of their parents along the way. Though camps are only for students, we place a great value on positive parental engagement and welcome any questions/concerns that may arise throughout our work together.

Will this camp get my student into their top college?

Although we have over two decades of success helping students from diverse backgrounds with their college and future planning, there are sadly no tips or tricks to guarantee acceptance to any individual college. Be wary of any programs that claim otherwise – especially amidst the ever-changing, increasingly competitive world of college admissions.

Though FLOW can’t promise golden admissions tickets, we are committed to helping students understand, build, and promote their strengths so they are always putting their best foot forward. Everything we do is about “fit.” We are dedicated to helping every student find a school (and a life path) that is right and successful for them.

What is the cost? And how do I reserve my space?

The cost per student is $775 for each 4-day camp session. All camp payments are non-refundable.

Students may switch session weeks as long as space is still available. Due to high demand, no make-up classes can be given. To reserve your space, fill out our Registration Form and pay your Camp Enrollment Fee

Who are the instructors?

Matthew Ozea, co-founder of FLOW Education, is the primary instructor for all summer and fall 2022 boot camps. Check out his full bio here.

Is lunch/dinner provided?

No full meals, however, a range of snacks will be available for camps held at the FLOW home office in Denver (vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options included).
